NetSuite Managed Services Tip #8 — How to Ensure Scripts & Workflows Run During CSV Imports in NetSuite

When performing a CSV import in NetSuite, automation controls such as setting specific field values or preventing certain records from being created may not execute if the ''Run Server SuiteScript and Trigger Workflows'' option is disabled during the import process (Step 2 — Import Options).

This issue is prevalent when importing fixed assets, where the fixed asset values may not be set correctly.

To ensure your server-side scripts and workflows run as expected during CSV imports, follow these steps:

  • Adjust Role Permissions:

Navigate to the role record (under the ''Setup'' subtab) and remove the ''Control SuiteScript and Workflow Triggers per CSV Import'' permission. This ensures the import process adheres to the default settings for triggering scripts and workflows.

  • Update CSV Import Preferences:

Go to ''Setup > Import/Export > CSV Import Preferences'' and enable the ''Run Server SuiteScript and Trigger Workflows'' option by default. This ensures that server-side scripts and workflows, which handle back-end operations like "After Record Submit'', are consistently triggered during imports.

⚠️ Important Note

  • These settings only apply to server-side scripts and workflows, which execute on the web server to manage backend processes.
  • If you’re unsure about configuring these settings, consult your NetSuite consultant for guidance to ensure a smooth and accurate import process.
